The Overview
IAM Robotics has created a robot to help with warehouse picking which would create a more efficient warehouse environment. As a Technical Product Manager & Senior UX Designer I was tasked with creating a mobile app and web application which would interact with the robot and pickers on the warehouse floor. This allows supervisors and managers to see what is happening across the facilities. I saw the creation of the product from concept to deployment.
I was one half of the design team and over the course of the year at IAM I grew tremendously. Some key achievements were :
- Implemented a design system. This helped product and engineering understand why and how we implement our design assets and components.
- Established a design process. This allowed our team to create more structure within our design process as well as create visibility for product and engineering into our sprints.
- Improved usability across the platform. Usability tests weren't conducted on the barebones system that existed prior. Since we established our UX processes we have implemented UX research and usability tests.

The Process
Before IAM had a design team, UI developers were left to create mockups without a design system or UX research. I started by meeting with product and engineering to understand technical and product limitations to gain a understanding of what currently exists. This allowed me to find the constraints to build the foundation for our design system.
Our research encompassed:
-Understanding competitor's product
-Understanding user goals and needs
-Determine the success of tasks measured
After this we were able to prioritize issues and narrow down the scope of work for MVP and begin wireframing.
